Handwriting Case For Examination
“Forensic handwriting
identification is the scientific examination and comparison of handwriting or
printing primarily for the purpose of identifying the author of an unknown
sample. Forensic handwriting identification involves the detailed analysis of
all the many handwriting characteristics and features of a questioned or unknown
sample of handwriting or printing and a comparison of these features with those
of a known sample of handwriting or printing from a suspect.”

Opinion terminology--What does it mean
In every case
where the FDE writes a report, he uses language to convey the results of his
analysis. Because language is not precise, there is the possibility of
confusing the report recipient by using phrases and words that can be
misinterpreted. Further complicating the use of language are the legal
requirements imposed by the burden of proof and presumption concepts that are a
part of the rules of evidence that lawyers and the court operate by. Although
these legal concepts are too broad to cover in minute detail in this work, an
overview of them will be covered in this paper.

Some
reasons for qualified conclusions
The examination and comparison of handwriting for the purpose of
determining authorship is a reliable means of identification. It is reliable
when the examiner properly, accurately, and conservatively applies the
principles that have been found to be true and correct over the many years the
profession has existed. The principles are well documented in numerous text and
papers written by qualified, competent, and ethical forensic document examiners.
